Rainy ~愛の調べ~

Rainy ~愛の調べ~ - Janne Da Arc

One of the not-so-noisy songs from JDA. ((: One of my favourites! :DDDDD

"medical sooplies!"

...this was actually the reason why yesterday's study session was cancelled. I thought for a long time before I decided to watch "La Tigre E La Neve"! Yesterday's was a sneak preview, and it opens officially in Singapore on 2nd November, but by then our 'A' Levels would've started, so I decided to catch it yesterday, at GV Vivocity. (Pretty place.)

Roberto Benigni constantly wins his audience no matter how similar the storyline and characters. (:

Vivocity was quite...refreshing (for Singapore) and it's not the usual squarish design. I liked thebalcony the best (: If they had tablesand chairs there, I'd have run there to study. But too large a crowd wasn't an entirely pleasant thing. The cineplex was WOW.

I Won't Say (I'm In Love)

If there's a prize for rotten judgement
I guess I've already won that
No man is worth the aggravation
That's ancient history, been there, done that!

Who'd'ya think you're kiddin'
He's the Earth and heaven to you
Try to keep it hidden
Honey, we can see right through you
Girl, ya can't conceal it
We know how ya feel and
Who you're thinking of

No chance, no way
I won't say it, no, no

You swoon, you sigh
why deny it, uh-oh

It's too cliche
I won't say I'm in love

I thought my heart had learned its lesson
It feels so good when you start out
My head is screaming get a grip, girl
Unless you're dying to cry your heart out

You keep on denying
Who you are and how you're feeling
Baby, we're not buying
Hon, we saw ya hit the ceiling
Face it like a grown-up
When ya gonna own up
That ya got, got, got it bad

No chance, no way
I won't say it, no, no

Give up, give in
Check the grin you're in love

This scene won't play,
I won't say I'm in love

You're doin flips read our lips
You're in love

You're way off base
I won't say it
Get off my case
I won't say it

Girl, don't be proud
It's O.K. you're in love

At least out loud,
I won't say I'm in love

I never really liked the film but the best thing about Hercules is this song. (:

for I will never die;

Remember - Josh Groban

I this guy's voice ! Actually it was partly because of him singing for the movie, Troy, that I decided that I REALLY wanted to catch it. And until now when I hear this song I still tear. The other movie I caught with him singing the theme song is The Polar Express, although actually a lot of the enthusiasm was really derived from loving these genres on movies. I love catching Christmas movies every December. (:

Hey. I love Josh Groban's hair too! (Now you know why I am fascinated with Siti's hair HAHA.) I have a soft spot for dark, curly hair.

life is a cabaret, old chum.

Actually, I found Cabaret pretty disappointing. But come to think of it, still, the experience was well worth the money. The tunes are unforgetable. (: The pineapple scene was totally anti-climatic:

Herr Schultz. Can I beleive what I see?
But this is too much to accept.
It's so rare... so costly... so luxurious...

If you brought me diamonds,
If you brought me pearls,
If you brought me roses
Like some other gents
Might bring to other girls,
It couldn't please me more
Than the gift I see;
A pineapple for me.

The acting, though, couldn't really come through because I think there was too much glamour in it to bring out the acting. (Although I guess it was SUPPOSED to enhance it.) Such as, when Cliff finally leaves and Sally Bowles stays, her last line to him was, "Dedicate your book to me, Cliff." But because we were sitting pretty far behind (but pretty good for $15, having been subsidised), I couldn't see her facial expressions, and through her voice, I couldn't get the exact message it was to convey. Did she say it in a laughing/mocking manner or in a way that she still loves Cliff and misses the past? Although the latter is probably more likely. I've never read the story. =|

I also liked the irony at the end. In 'Willkommen', the EmCee sings:

Leave you troubles outside!
So - life is disappointing? Forget it!
We have no troubles here! Here life is beautiful...
The girls are beautiful...
Even the orchestra is beautiful!

And at the end of the show, there is another round of 'Willkommen', but this time, the Emcee says, "Where are your troubles now? Forgotten! You see? I told you you would forget your troubles. In here, there are no troubles!" Yet, ironically, in the background sits Cliff on the train homeward bound for America, sad and depressed with more worries than he had BEFORE he encountered the Cabaret.

i want to swim in that ocean with you.

Very cute Beluga Whale in Yokohama, Japan (2006) trying to frighten people off by opening its mouth suddenly. Although after the video I felt sad that such a pretty whale had to live in a space-constrained aquarium. But at least it's still alive. (:

Went out to Tampines Mall with Vanessa お母さん today. 超楽しいよ~! There was a 北海道 (Hokkaido) food fair there, and I bought seasoned scallops and beans (which I think should be called BEANUTS because we kept calling them nuts. xD) Amazing. They look like rocks but they taste so sweet ! LOLLIPOPS GALORE TOO! The trip was tiring but so so so good. ...if not for the food being so expensive. x)

And, ヤッパリ、we were meant to bump into Mr.MacDonalds'.

We explored Toys R' Us (I want to be a 子供 again!) and had to leave our bags at the counter (does that apply only to students? I never experienced this before.) then we realised... "Hey, what about our wallets?" xD

A happy happy day. Can't wait to show mum what I got. :D

And I got Pest a Birthday present too. Belated one x) Happy Birthday girl. (: Cheer up. (:

Oh I miss Underwater World. I want to see those beautiful schools of fish swim by. I miss the fish. I wish there were more aquariums in Singapore with a lot lower entrance fees. Like, A LOT lower. Depriving fish lovers. I mean, the milder fish lovers. =|

You stare at us while we swim in circles
But we stare right back at you
And stay amused at your imitation of us too.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (Trailer Leak)

YO-HO! POTC2 tomorrow!

I pray there is no last minute make-up lesson(s). Who cares about Will Turner? CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW. I haven't been to the cinema in AGES. (:

There was a two-hour break and then a one-and-a-half-hour break today, which practically made us very free and slacking around. Besides, we were watching movie after movie today. Fortunately I found a copy of The Hobbit on the library shelf and picked up where I left off in my reading. During the second break, we all went out to Serangoon Central, and Esther said, "You see! We all came out just to accompany you to buy SHAMPOO!" We sat and ate at Macs and chatted after that and headed back for school for dratted econs remedial. (They should call it official lecture anyway. It's going to spoil wednesdays.) I don't mind spending wednesdays like that, really. (:

"Immortality! Take it! It's yours!"
(has nothing to do with POTC; been watching too much of TROY.)

later edit:
oh oh oh ! I forgot to add this!
We're watching CABARET at the Esplanade on 23rd July !
My first ever musical :D Starring Fei Xiang xD I've been wanting to watch Cabaret, and now we're gong as a literature class. ((:
I was scanning through the sistic page, and I caught under the admission ruels: Infants in arms or children BELOW the age of 15 SHALL NOT be admitted. Maybe they will ask for my IC. HAHAHA.

CINDERELLA III! *吃驚!* Although I don't really like the idea of so many sequels because it kind of destroys the whole one-go happy ending feel, but who cares ! Shibue Jyoji, and he plays... タクシドー・仮面 in Sailor Moon Live Action HAHAHAHAHAHA. (Don't ask me how I know that.) He's not photogenic. Not really. x) Comes from Nagano, 1983. hm. In the show, he ALWAYS reminds me of Furuya Keita for some reason! (OMG VK, don't throw banana skins at me.) And don't ask how I know that.

...I am not a fan of Sailor Moon, really. I guess it's some childhood memories, so I got hooked on the Live Action. xDDDDD Who cares if you think that's childish? :P I miss my childhood days.

Luna and Artemis looked darn fake xD And to tell the truth the whole show looked like Power Rangers LOL. But, what was kind of nice was the story OUTSIDE the fighting and all that magic. (:

alan cumming.

Do you remember this guy? Nightcrawler (played by Alan Cumming) who just disappeared off with X-2? After I finished X-Men 3, I asked, "WHERE IS NIGHTCRAWLER?!" How on earth could they not AT LEAST account for his disappearance.

Anyway. I discovered today, that he is an amazing guy in the arts and media industry. :D Recently, he played Macheath (oh my gosh and we're studying this play!) in The Threepenny Opera, which is based on Elizabeth Hauptmann’s German translation of John Gay's eighteenth-century The Beggar’s Opera:

And I nearly choked on my drink x) I had no idea he did Broadway. (While on this topic, the sequel to The Beggar's Opera, Polly, was banned from production by Prime Minister Robert Walpole because of the satirical comments shot at him xD)

Cumming has also played Fegan Floop in Spy Kids, Spy Kids 2 and Spy Kids 3-D. He also appeared in the 1995 production of Emma, based on the novel by Jane Austen, and has acted in The Dead Poets' Society as a film for BBC2.

On Hamlet:
Alan played the title role in Shakespeare's tragedy for the English Touring Theatre. The play toured England and ended up in London at the Donmar Warehouse. Alan won the Martini Rossi TMA award for Best Actor, and was also nominated for the Richard Burton Award at the Shakespeare Globe Awards. "This was a huge thing for me. I'd never really wanted to do Hamlet, and it only came about when Tilda Swinton pulled out of the planned production of Miss Julie that I was going to do with Steve Unwin (the director). It really changed my life. I don't think anyone can play Hamlet without him affecting you in a really primal way. The part deals with such universal and yet personal things: your relationship with your parents, dealing with the death of a parent (and as I felt it, dealing with the death of a parent you didn't like very much), wanting to get away from home and back to your friends, university and your own life, trying to cope with your girlfriend suddenly dumping you when you are feeling really low for no apparent reason - as well as some issues that thinking about or exploring even on a very superficial level can be incredibly upsetting and haunting, e.g. wondering whether or not to kill yourself, and how to deal with your father's ghost coming to you and telling you to avenge his death! But even though it was the biggest challenge of my life to play (and sustain playing) this part, I am so grateful to have had the chance, because it really did change my life. It also eventually made me feel much more relaxed about my work. I feel that if I die tomorrow then I will have done something I am truly proud of."

He has also appeared in various other Shakespearean plays including Romeo and Juliet, As You Like It, and Macbeth/Macbeth Posessed. Hey, he even played the role of PIP in the stage production of Great Expectations!

(Alan Cumming as Pip in Great Expectations.)

You know what. Most of all, I still want Nightcrawler back. :(

"Toward happiness you run
Through rain and snow and sleet,
But happiness will always run
Behind you in the street.
Yes, for human living,
Humans aren't smart enough.
So they don't know their striving
Will never be enough."
-quote from Roundabout Theatre Company's production of The Threepenny Opera.

"Life's a jest, and all things show it. I thought it once and now I know it."
-John Gay

『川の流れのように』 - 天童よしみ

This is from the 56th NHK 紅白歌合戦, 『川の流れのように』 (Kawa no Nagare No Youni) performed by 天童よしみ (Tendou Yoshimi), originally sung by 美空ひばり(Misora Hibari). She is one of the famous Enka singers in Japan. Yea, Sylvia secretly loves watching Enka performances. (But if I tell you now, it wouldn't be a secret anymore. ) The simplicity of their lyrics can actually bring across so much emotion Although the girls' team didn't win, it was a good four hours of songs anyway :D 天童さん got to perform as the last singer for her team, and SMAP for the male team, and it's always a great honour to be the last performer(s) of the team. The last performers are usually the famous enka singers, but because over the years SMAP has gained much influence, they got to perform last. :)

"The term enka refers to two different styles of Japanese music. The first is a traditional type of music from both the Meiji period (1868–1912) and the Taisho period (1912-1926). The second is a genre of melodramatic Japanese popular songs, which has been likened to American country music in terms of themes and audience. The term now usually refers to the latter.

The term enka (演歌 - from enzetsu public speech and ka song) originated in Meiji Japan. It began as a form of political dissent - speeches set to music to make them spread more easily - but quickly changed form. It was the first style to synthesize the Japanese pentatonic scale with Western harmonies.

In recent decades, enka music has declined both in sales and in recognition as American-like J-Pop music has become more popular. However, there are still many in Japan who like it. Its popularity among younger Japanese people has increased lately because of singer Kiyoshi Hikawa and the early solo releases of then-Morning Musume member Yuko Nakazawa. Enka singers, especially females, usually perform in a kimono.

Nods to traditional Japanese music are common in enka, usually in the form of an interlude featuring instruments like the shinobue and the shamisen. Besides television, enka can usually be heard in many restaurants and drinking establishments."

I am very amused by how Hikawa Kiyoshi (refer to extract above) dances on stage. xD

My dad is a fan of 北島三郎(Kitajima Saburo), so whenever I watch Kouhaku on TV and 北島三郎 appears, he just gets excited and exclaims, "北島三郎 ! 北島三郎 !" (We're just two little kids watching TV, you know. )

March of the Penguins

Beautiful, beautiful film. :) The emperor penguin's once a year journey to find their mate, and produce that adorable young. I was hesitant to watch this when my dad took out the DVD and asked if I wanted to watch it. But when I sat down, I was immediately caught by how adorable the penguins were, and gradually went on the journey with them to create life. (:

They make humans seem very disgraceful. While they seek to survive and protect their children in that harsh, cold weather, we humans do not merely seek to survive, but to get the best advantage we could out of every single thing, and eventually building our own happiness at the expense of others'. They are part of nature, and we have ruined nature. :(

They know when to let go of their child so that their child learns to be independent and grow up in life. But we, are so determined that our children "have the best" that we have protected and controlled them too much, and when the storm comes, we would have realised that thesse children cannot survive. The world is so cold now that parents bear to abandon their children.

The loss of children is terribly heart-breaking to see -- they have either been lost by their fathers while the male penguins huddle together for warmth, or have gotten lost after they were born, and died in a storm. The mothers were so heartbroken that they even attempted to steal another chick from another mother penguin.

That sense of joy in seeing that egg hatch after all the hard work actually made me appreciate my parents more. They didn't go through the blizzard and snow storms, but they went through so much hard work to bring me up now, and give me all they can.

But I'm so afraid that I've stayed under the furry belly too long and will stand by the sea while I watch everyone else jump in and have their good splash, and begin a new phase of their life.

PS: The northern lights are beautiful, haunting and terrifying all at the same time.

I want to spread my wings
Even if I cannot fly
Let me pretend I can
Just to bring me joy (:
